JOSEPH CARTER, Williams College of Business, Xavier University, Director, Xavier Launch-a-Business Competition, Visiting Professor, Management and Entrepreneurship

Joseph Carter teaches management and entrepreneurship at Xavier University and heads the Xavier Launch-a-Business Competition, an economic development program.

In both roles, Professor Carter draws on his 27 years of experience in business leadership positions.

Carter served as director of operational excellence for Ingersoll-Rand Co., a global industrial manufacturer and service provider. He was responsible for operational strategy development and deployment for 14 sites in North America, Europe and Asia. Carter also was a faculty member for Ingersoll-Rand’s internal corporate university, where he trained and mentored executives and mid-level managers in business and operational methodologies.

In addition, he worked in management jobs for Huffy Corp., Federal-Mogul and Harley-Davidson. Plus, he has 10 years’ experience as an international business consulting manager.

Since 2007, he has taught management and entrepreneurship at the Williams College of Business. In 2009, he received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. And in 2010, he received the Executive MBA Professor of the Year Award.

Earlier, he obtained his bachelor degree and Executive MBA from the Williams College of Business.
